2005 CrewmembersReminder notice for current roster of 2005 Crewmembers of Spaceship Earth: Please be sure to attend your educational training and welcome aboard pizza party sponsored by our recycling company:

October 12, Wednesday at 12:05 upper playground tables (closest to Rm 9/play structure/near boys’ restroom)

As part of our planet patrol, you’ll learn about your specific duties and responsibilities, plus find out fun ways to help spread the word to peers. Don’t forget to bring your scheduling form for which days you’re able to work lunch duty. If you need an extra, there are some in the parent volunteer room. Congratulations again; see you Wednesday. ---The Environmental Committee

Halloween Costume Swap-n-Shop, Monday 10/17!

The Environmental Committee has over 25 costumes donated for our 'repurposing' program, but we'd still like more, so please put your donation in the tunnel before October 14th!! Then after school on Monday, 10/17 at the 12:40 bell, come select one in the tunnel, using our free & fun honor system for recycling ease. It’s a great way to ‘repurpose’ your outgrowns, with plenty of time to see what fits before your little goblin goes trick-or-treating. Questions? 558-1730.

Fitness Fans Bring Your Spirit to Aragon…A reminder for Friday, 10/14!! The Health and Fitness Committee is proud to kick off our new field trip program with the classic fall spectator sport of the season…football! Aragon Coach Steve Sell has invited Baywood to cheer on his Varsity team as they face off with Burlingame High School right after school at 3pm on Oct. 14th!! If you wear your Baywood logo shirts/sweatshirts buttons or mention you ‘read about it in the Tues. mail or BW Breeze’ you’ll be admitted FREE!

DONATIONS FOR PLAYGROUND…The noontime eyes committee is looking for donations of certain items for use on the playground. We need chalk, markers, chess sets, Chinese jump ropes, and paper. The paper that has worked well in the past is the bulk 81/2x11 recycled paper from STAPLES. Please leave your donations in the office. There will be a box marked noontime eyes. At this time, just the list above would be helpful. We are pretty well stocked on other items. If you have any questions about donating or have some other suggestions, please contact karen-french@sbcglobal.net.

From now until Christmas break, students will be learning about the Lifelong Guidelines in their classrooms. They are:

Trustworthiness  - Truthfulness  - Active Listening - No Put Downs - Personal Best

They will be starting with trustworthiness.

To reinforce this concept at home, please talk to your child about what it means to be trustworthy. Trustworthiness is to act in a manner that makes one worthy of trust and confidence. Examples of trustworthiness are keeping a confidence, taking good care of a library book or other borrowed item, following the rules even when an adult isn’t present, and doing chores or helping around the house without being asked.  Start discussions with your child while reading, watching a program, or when incidents occur. Ask the question, “Was that character being trustworthy?”

There are examples of ways to practice trustworthiness in the Character Begins at Home Book as well as suggested literature to read.  Character Begins at Home Books will be coming next week for those that ordered them at the LIFESKILLS training. There will also be copies in the library as well as your child’s classroom for parents to look at and check out. In the meantime, here is some suggested literature:

Ages 4-8      The Blue and the Gray     Eve Bunting

Horton Hatches the Egg   Dr. Seuss

Ages 9-12    Abel’s Island                             William Steig

                   Strider                                      Beverly Cleary

BREAKING NEWS!!

THE PTA MEMBERSHIP DRIVE HAS BEEN EXTENDED FOR ONE WEEK

At the 5 week mark, just HALF (Only 215 out of 430) of Baywood families and staff have joined the PTA.  Our goal is 100%, so we are extending our drive for one more week to give everyone a chance to join.  Every dollar counts.  Join with $5.00 and show your support to the PTA and the programs it offers our children.  Envelopes are in the office now!!  We know many of you want to join but haven't found the time.  Well, now is the time.  We have 2 more fabulous prizes to give away to 2 lucky winners this week.  You can’t win if you don’t join……so join now!!

Corporate Matches:  We are so pleased to recognize the companies who have matched Baywood contributions this year for our PTA.  Genetech, Intel, Schwab, SUN, WAMU, Symantec, GAP, UPS, HP, Merrill Lynch, Intuit, Fidelity,  and McKesson are responsible for just over 10% of the total dollars donated.  For those of you that work at large companies, check with your human resources department and see if that is one of your benefits.    You give $50.  Your company matches with $50.  The PTA receives a total of $100.  Companies have these $$ earmarked for these types of non profit organizations.  PTA is a non profit organization!  It is easy money for Baywood.  Please take the time to capture these precious dollars for our school.

Congratulations to this week’s prize winners.  Lidia Przyluskia and Drew Takahashi will enjoy a delicious Amici’s Family Pasta, and Rick Barnard and Nancy Mayrose have won a lovely hand-made trinket from Claire’s Creations.  Enjoy!!

Any questions, please contact Tammie Medeiros Bosley, Jennifer Tietz, or Sandy Reichenberger Reiter

DESIGN YOUR OWN NOTE CARD…Watch your child's backpack for information about note cards.  This 5th grade class fundraiser allows your child to design his or her very own note card. The final product will be professionally printed --- in color on white paper ---and can be purchased at an extremely attractive price!

Your child designs the card using the material sent home, you turn in the form and payment, and the end result is  a set of 4-¼  X 5- ½ “ note cards packaged 20 to a set, wrapped in sparkling, star-studded cellophane, and topped off with a glittering silver ribbon to create a beautiful package ready for gift giving.

If you would like your child to design more than one card – extras can be obtained in the office – do not photocopy the Note Card Picture Form because copies will not be accepted.    Your child’s siblings and friends, including adults, are also welcome to submit orders.

The note cards are due Oct 19th.  They will be available in early December.

If you have any questions, please contact Sue Blockstein (579-2711, sue@webfootc.com) or Gale Borden (348-7753, gborden@borden-law.com)
